Our trip is coming up soon! Just wanted to give you a short
itinerary of our travels. We depart from North Carolina on July 16th
and arrive in Madrid, Spain. Then we spend a few days in Barcelona. The day
before my birthday we arrive in France and we will spend ten days working on a magnificent
vineyard in a beautiful countryside. Then we make our way to Paris we might
stop in Dijon or maybe Bordeaux. But once we get to Paris we will stay there
for about a week and I have a long list of places we want to eat at. We have
been practicing our French especially how to order coffee, this is very
important. Next we fly to Dublin, Ireland and spend a day exploring before we
get picked up by our first host family that lives near Waterford. The wife is a
writer and the husband is a chef. We will be helping them get their garden
fixed and possibly working in their restaurant. Then our second host family is
near Cork, Ireland and we will just be helping around the house with whatever
they need, they live on the water and go out on the boat pretty often. The last
host family for Ireland is near Cork also. They have a traditional walled
garden, rose garden, Victorian knot garden and vegetable gardens and orchards. They
love to cook and already said they can’t wait till we get there and exchange
recipes and cook for each other. October we will be in Scotland enjoying the
countryside and then head over to Wales to see the famous castles and then
spend a weekend in London. We fly from London to Italy and start my favorite
part of the trip. We have a little time to explore Milan and Venice and Rome
before we go to our first host family. And we are trying to make reservations
at Chef Massimo’s restaurant to experience his famous tasting menu. We both
have never had the opportunity to eat a chef’s tasting menu before and if we
get the chance to experience this one in Italy of all places, we will be so
excited! In November we will arrive at our first host family for Italy. They have
a gorgeous house up in the mountains of Abruzzi National Park between Rome and
Naples. We will be there during the olive picking season and hopefully get to
see the whole process of making olive oil. Then my favorite host family is in
southern Italy they are a retired couple but young at heart. They love food and
wine and grow their own vegetables and the husband is a retired chef. They said
they live an easy life and we get to be a part of it for a few weeks and the
best part is we can learn Italian cooking from the local chef out of his own
kitchen. Their house sits on a hill in the countryside and the view from the
terrace is beautiful I can’t wait till we get there. Then they have a friend
down the road that needs help picking olives so we will stay with her for the
last week in November. At the start of December we will be in Geneva, Switzerland
touring a Swiss chocolate factory and then seeing where they make Gruyere
cheese. And hopefully going on a glacier excursion. Then we cross over to the
far side of Switzerland to Davos where we rented a cute little apartment on a
ski resort and we will be snowboarding that whole week. The resort covers like
5 mountains so we have a lot of trails to explore. Justin is super excited
about this part, he loves snowboarding and I’m sure we will be posting videos
of him gliding through the snow. This is
the end of our adventure we fly out of Switzerland on December 15th
and arrive home later that night.
A lot of planning a researching has gone into this trip and
we are getting closer every day to leaving. We are excited and nervous and
ready for July to get here! We are both working crazy hours and I have been
working two jobs to save up money especially this last month. If anyone wants
to help support us in thoughts and prayers or in funds that would be appreciated.
